TEN COMMANDMENTS OF A RESPONSIBLE PET OWNER
1. My life is likely to last 10 to 15 years. Any separation from you will be very painful.
2. Give me time to understand what you want of me.
3. Place your trust in me- it is crucial for my well-being.
4. Don't be angry with me for long, and don't lock me up for my punishment. You have your work, your friends, your entertainment. I have only you!
5. Talk to me. Even if I don't understand your words, I understand your voice when it's speaking to me.
6. Be aware that however you treat me, I'll NEVER forget it.
7. Before you hit me, remember that I have teeth that could easily crush the bones in your hand, but I choose not to bite you.
8.Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I'm not getting the right food, I've been out in the sun too long, or my heart may be getting old and weak.
9.Take care of me when I get old. You, too, will grow old.
10. Go with me on difficult journeys. Never say, "I can't bear to watch it" or, "Let it happen on my absence." Everything is easier for ME if you are there. Remember, I love you.

Some interesting GOLDEN Q & A...
Q: What makes a golden retriever so special?
A: Goldens are a unique breed in that they have an extremely strong desire to
please their owner. A golden is a sensitive dog and easily adapts to almost any
situation. They are one of the easiest breeds to train and they are used in many
rescue operations and also do quite well in therapy work. Goldens are probably
the best dog for families as they are extremely tolerant towards children. Lastly,
we breed only "conformation" goldens which are descended from show dogs
that have to be extra calm to win in the show ring.

Q: Do goldens shed a lot of hair?
A: Yes they do...however, goldens love to be brushed as this is an example of
their love for attention. This brushing can be a big treat for a young pup after they
are done with a training session. You will find that a golden will quickly recognize
a brush and probably even bring it you for his "therapy" !

Q: Are goldens hard to housetrain?
A: Definitely not....their strong desire to please their master translates to a golden
doing what the owner wants in order to get the attention and praise they live for.
The best way to housetrain is to praise your golden heavily when he/she does the
right thing outside. The pup will quickly figure out what to do to get the reward.

Q:  What exactly is an 'English' golden?
A:  In Europe, the term 'English Goldens' refer to Golden Retrievers that are born in the United Kingdom.  English Goldens from England range in color from very pale to dark gold.  In the United States, however, the term 'English Goldens' is used to refer to Golden Retrievers who are very pale or blond in color, even if they do not come from English Bloodlines, or the U.K.
